KINGWOOD -— The Kingwood Sanitary Sewer Board will be sending out letters to delinquent customers this week.
The letter is to inform customers if a payment plan is not made within five days their sewer service will be terminated.
At the Monday board meeting Amy DeBerry, water clerk, said there is currently $6,861.65 in overdue bills. This amount includes both 30- and 60-day overdue customers.
“That’s about 50 residential customers,” she said. “The number is going down. Most of the overdue customers are either on a payment plan or have paid their bills.”
She said most of the bills are due to the State Public Service Commission (PSC) asking the board in March not to turn off service to customers with overdue bills due to COVID-19.
Randy Plum, vice chairman for the board, voiced concerns about income adjustments for employees and purchasing equipment.
Plum said he was concerned about spending money until “we get a handle on our funds.”
“We can’t transfer funds from our general fund to bonds,” he said. “What we get is what we get. Unless we reduce our operating costs our income is pretty steady. I have real concerns about the future. We have to decrease our operation costs.”
Nick Wolfe, sewer department supervisor, suggested raising income by extending service to Miller Road and Cherry Hill.
“If we extended out there the sewer service could grow and we could eliminate 10 or more grinder stations,” he said.
No further action was taken. Plum suggested it be discussed further at the next board meeting.
The next meeting of the Kingwood Sanitary Sewer Board will be 2:30 p.m. Aug. 10.
