MORGANTOWN — Following a vehicle chase, a Pennsylvania man was arrested and charged when police allegedly found drugs on his side of the vehicle.
Jack H. Lowery, 36, of Rockwood, is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
About 2:40 a.m. on Saturday, Officers R. Meador and T. Bradford ran the Florida license plate of the blue Nissan Rogue – driven by a white woman, with a white male passenger – which turned from Spruce Street onto Walnut Street, according to a criminal complaint.
The license plate did not return and the officers activated the cruiser’s emergency lights and siren to stop the vehicle on East Brockway, the complaint said.
The driver of the vehicle didn’t stop and instead continued at a “high rate of speed” down W. Va. 7, turned onto Darst Street, through the Mileground and down Hartman Run Road before turning into the Woodland Terrace trailer park, according to the complaint.
Officers found the vehicle parked half in the yard of a trailer, the complaint said. The passenger was found in the woods and identified as Lowery. The woman driver was not found in the search.
Meador noticed a plastic zip lock bag with a white crystal substance on the floor board of the front passenger seat when he approached the vehicle, according to the complaint.
A few hours later a search warrant was executed on the vehicle. Three bags with a combined 65 grams of methamphetamine, one bag with 1.5 grams of marijuana, three marijuana joints in a cigarette pack, two small scales and $222 were found in the front passenger side of the vehicle, the complaint said.
Lowery is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.
