100-mile ride helps fight child abuse

By Harley Benda

The north-central West Virginia chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse will host  a 100-mile ride July 18, with all proceeds going to the chapter.

The ride starts at Triple S Harley-Davidson in the Gateway off Chaplin Road,  continuing to the Derby Bar and Grill in Fairmont, Our Back Porch Ice Cream in Mannington, then ending at Mary’s Place in Fairview. Those who would like to participate can do so on a motorcycle, or even in a car.

“Bama,” the north-central West Virginia BACA president, said there will be activities for everyone at Triple S and Mary’s Place.

Bama’s real name is not being used for his privacy and that of the organization.

“There will be kids’ activities, snow cones, and fire handlers at Triple S, and door prizes, giveaways, food, drinks and fellowship at Mary’s Place at the end,” he said.

Bama added that the mission for Bikers Against Child Abuse is to let children not feel afraid in the places they live.

“Bikers Against Child Abuse exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children,” he said. “We exist as a body of bikers to empower children to not feel afraid of the world in which they live.”

The organization takes referrals from parents and guardians about child abuse. Bama said that spreading awareness of the organization is key to helping kids who need it.

He  also said the organization is more than just here in north-central West Virginia, with chapters in 48 states   and 18 countries around the world.

Registration for anyone wanting to participate is from 10 a.m.-noon, with “Kick Stands Up” at 12:30 p.m. Those unable to make it to the event can  donate   to the organization by calling 304-249-4911, emailing board@nc-wv.bacaworld.org, or by mail B.A.C.A. North Central WV, PO Box 523, Dellslow, WV, 26513.

“Thanks to all that are able to come out, meet new folks, get some wind therapy and support an awesome cause in your local area,” Bama said.
