Michael Hovatter

Michael “Mike” Eugene Hovatter, 66, of Independence, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020, at Mapleshire in Morgantown. He was born Jan. 28, 1954, in Morgantown, son of the late Floyd Osborn and Gertrude Jean Walls Hovatter.

Mike graduated from Newburg High School, Class of 1972. He served his country in the United States Army with two tours in Germany. He loved singing and playing his guitar at Church.

He is survived by three brothers, Gerald “Jerry” L. Hovatter and Ruby, of Providence, N.C., Dennis “Wimp” Hovatter and Shirley, of Independence, James Andy Hovatter and Kathy, Sterling, Va.; two sisters, Judith “Judy” A. Friend, of Independence, and Sue E. Wolfe and Ralph, of Charles Town; two nephews, Matt Wolfe and Dewey Wolfe and Gretchen; three great-nephews, Koa, Daxton and Gavin; and one great-niece, Keala.

A special thank you to the nurses and staff at Mapleshire for the great care Mike received. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harvest House Ministries 13573 S. Preston Highway, Tunnelton, WV 26444.

Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave. Newburg, WV, 26410, from 1-6 p.m. Sunday, July 12. A graveside will be held at WV National Cemetery at noon on Monday, July 13, with Pastor Terry Wilt officiating where military honors will be accorded by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the U.S. Army National Guard of Camp Dawson.
