Sharon Shaffer

Sharon Lea Jones Shaffer, 49, of Barrackville, died Friday, July 3, 2020, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness. She was born March 11, 1971, in Fairmont, a daughter of Mike and Sandra Jones, of Farmington.

Sharon was the co-owner of Wolfe and Associates and very active in the Barrackville community. She graduated from WVU with a master’s degree in public administration and a B.S. in international studies. She also earned a B.S. in engineering from Fairmont State University and was on the board of directors for Pierpont Community and Technical College. She was active in the North Marion Foundation, 4-H volunteerism, outdoor activities, biking, exercising and enjoyed traveling and helping others. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Farmington.

In addition to her parents, she is also survived by her husband, Earl “Rob” Shaffer, whom she married Aug. 5, 1995; a son, Alexander Jacob Shaffer, at home; a sister, Kimberly Jones (Michael) Ferrebee, of Morgantown, and her children: Tiaa, Sarah, Tim, Michael Ferrebee and Katie Ferrebee (Kyle) Poland; father-in-law, George (Judy) Shaffer, of Reedsville; sister-in-law, Ange (Robert) Varner, of Preston County, and her children: Kaylyn and John Harris and Pacyn Varner; and an uncle: Dennis Jones.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Deborah Shaffer; and her grandparents: Byron “Mike” and Gertrude Jones and Willa Belle and Robert Garside.
Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home, 3171 Husky Highway Farmington, from 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, at which time a biblical wake service will be held with the Rev. Father Vincy Illickal officiating. Cremation will follow, with a private memorial mass celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Farmington and inurnment to follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Farmington at a later date.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, strict social distancing will be enforced at the funeral home. The family respectfully requests that all visitors wear masks out of concern for Mike’s health.
