Call it faith through fireworks … combustion with a cause. After spending more than $20,000 in March to get home from a week-long Honduran missions trip turned two-week COVID-19 lockdown, the Morgantown Church of Christ is raising money to head back as soon as possible.
The church has teamed up with TNT Fireworks to place a church-staffed fireworks tent in the 4-H Camp Road Walmart parking lot through July 5.
“It’s a group effort to try to raise that money because it was not cheap trying to get back home from Honduras. It really hurt our mission fund,” Youth Ministries Intern Brandon Brammer said.
He explained that Honduras remains locked down, just as it was when the group left. Depending on future developments with COVID-19 and fundraising efforts, the earliest a return trip could take place is March.
“Nobody knows when a vaccine will come or when this will be over, but I know everybody really hopes we get back because there’s a lot of people there who we have personal connections with. People miss the fact that the people there aren’t just people we give charity to. They’re our friends and people we enjoy seeing,” Brammer said.
But in the meantime, “Come out and support our missions work. Buy some fireworks and be safe,” he said.
