A Morgantown man was arrested and charged after allegedly trying to take a baby from his mother in an emergency room.
Felix Nahun Reyes Galeas, 31, is charged with attempted kidnapping.
Shortly after midnight on Saturday, officers with the Morgantown Police Department went to the emergency room at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital for a disturbance, according to a criminal complaint.
When they arrived security had already detained Galeas, the complaint said.
An investigation determined Galeas tried to take a 1-year-old boy from his mother, according to Communications Specialist Michaela Martin.
Galeas did not know the child, who was not harmed in the incident, Martin said. The motive is unclear at this time.
Officers took witness statements from “every one in the emergency room.” The witnesses said they saw Galeas “try to take a child from his mother by force,” the complaint said.
Magistrate Tim Pocius arraigned Galeas on Saturday. He is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
