Burley Johnson

Burley W. Johnson Jr., 58, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 21, 2020, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family following a seven-month illness. He was born April 24, 1962, to Betty (Hardy) Johnson, of Kingwood, and the late Burley W. Johnson Sr.

In 1980, Burley graduated from West Preston High School. He entered Fairmont State College in his senior year and graduated in 1983 with an A.S. degree in electrical engineering technology. He immediately began a career with Allegheny Energy. Burley worked as a Results Technician from 1983-1999 at Rivesville Power Station and from 1999-2012 at Albright Power Station. Upon the closing of the Albright Power Station, Burley was resilient and transitioned into a new career. From 2012 until his retirement in August 2019, he worked for First Energy, Fairmont Control Center as a transmission system operator and reliability coordinator.

Whether you called him Burley, Bill or Billy, you were blessed to know a kind and gentle soul. He was a very devoted son, caring relative and loyal friend. As a pastime, he enjoyed golfing, bowling and hunting with his friends and family. His competitive spirit and good-natured personality were enjoyed by all who interacted with him.

He was a member of the Preston Country Club, Rhododendron Hunting Club and Mountain Top Muzzle Loading Hunting Club.

Burley is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jamie Lattanzi Johnson; his mother, Betty; sisters, Tracy and husband William Wheeler and Amy Johnson, all of Kingwood; and his mother-in-law, Donna Lattanzi, and sister-in-law, Julie Lattanzi, of Morgantown. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Shane (Amber) Wheeler, of Albright, Sara Wheeler, of Robinson, Ill., Olivia Ward, Elizabeth (Anthony) Anderson and Georgia Ward, of St. Cloud, Minn., Ashlee Weston, Amylia Weston, Justin Wheeler and Ryan (Kendra) Wheeler, all of Kingwood. Uncle Bill got tremendous joy from his great-nieces and -nephews, Bailey, Halle, Amaya, Kamden, Landon, Lyncoln and Huey.

He was preceded in death by his father, Burley Sr.; his grandparents, Artie and Flora Johnson and Robert and Lillian Hardy; father-in-law, James Lattanzi; and sister-in-law, Debbie Lattanzi.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Burley’s memory to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1 Guthrie Lane, Morgantown, WV 26508 or Greater Love Outreach Family Ministries, P.O. Box 1181, Morgantown, WV 26507.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no public services. Private interment will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Kingwood. Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel are assisting the family with arrangements.
