Catherine “Kate” Balint Dunmire, 88, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Ruby Memorial Hospital on Friday, June 26, 2020.
Kate was born on Dec. 18, 1931, in Yonkers, NY, the daughter of the late Frank Joseph and Helen (Ondek) Balint, and moved to Morgantown as a teenager.
She was Catholic by faith and spent her life serving various communities as a Registered Nurse. She was a proud graduate of the Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing. She went on to work at Georgetown Hospital, then made her way to Morgantown to be an employee of Vincent Pallotti Hospital. After a stint there, she became an Industrial Nurse for over 20 years.
Kate was a quick-witted and feisty woman who was not afraid to speak her mind or tell you how it is. Although she was very direct this did not overshadow her amazing humbleness. She was never pretentious and was very giving. She was all about her family and taught her children the values that one needs in life. She was often caught telling them, “All you got in this world is your family,” and she meant it.
She is survived by children: Daniel Dunmire I,V of Philadelphia Pa., Erin Dunmire, of Morgantown, and Judi Dunmire Polak and her husband Mark, of Morgantown; three granddaughters: Katie, Emily, and Erin Polak; two siblings, Raymond Balint and Helen Borkowski; and other extended family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Frank Balint, Jr.
In accordance with her wishes, no public services will be held. Hastings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She will be laid to rest next to her parents at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
The family strongly urges against flowers. Friends may make donations in her memory to:
