Daniel Martin “Danny” Richter, 38, of Morgantown, a well-known local pub proprietor, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning, June 20, 2020.
Danny was born Feb. 18, 1982, in Jefferson City, Mo. He is the son of Dennis Richter and Juliana Marie Smith-Fichter and the grandson of Marvin and Lavena Richter, of Wardensville, Mo., and Evelyn and the late Kenneth Smith, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he is survived by his three siblings, Monica Swinney, of Cumberland, Md., Alisha Graham, of Laurel, Miss., and Justin Smith-Fichter, of Harpers Ferry; his nieces and nephews, Charisa Swinney, Shea Graham, Rylee Hovatter and Curtis Graham; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and his ever-faithful canine companion, Stormy.
Danny was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran who served from 2002-2006 and obtained the rank of Corporal. As a combat veteran, he honorably served many tours in countries across the world. During his service he was awarded the Purple Heart along with several other ribbons and commendations.
He was the owner of McClafferty’s Irish pub in Morgantown and built a reputation as being a good businessman and friend to his community of loyal customers. Danny always made sure anyone who walked into his pub felt at home.
Friends may join Danny’s family to honor his life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Morgantown from 1-8 p.m. Friday, June 26 with his family present at the funeral home between the hours of 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Danny will be laid to rest in a private ceremony for his immediate family at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery where he will be accorded Full Military Honors.
Those in attendance at the funeral home will be asked to practice all recommended social distancing guidelines. Face masks will be required inside the funeral home unless a health condition otherwise prevents you from doing so, and guests will be asked to limit their visits to no more than 15 minutes.
