Gloria Barkaszi, 93, of Morgantown, died Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Mapleshire Nursing Home. She was born March 30, 1927, in Coalton, W.Va., a daughter of the late Domenick DeProspero and Josephine Mastrogiuseppe.
Mrs. Barkaszi was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where she was a hospitality minster, prayer line coordinator and funeral luncheon volunteer. For 32 years, she worked as a nurse for Dr. Kelley at the Miileground Medical Center. She also volunteered for Quota International and Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary (Roberts) Barkaszi; grandchildren, Tony, Gina, and Dominick Barkaszi; sister, Lena Angotti; niece, Sissy Palmer, raised as a sibling; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Barkaszi; son, Brent Barkaszi; and siblings, Carmela LaGatta and husband, Ralph, Eulanda Smith and husband, Charles, John DeProspero and wife, Sandy; Ike DeProspero and wife, Ruth; Isolina Hazel Gasper and husband, Charles; brother-in-law, Joseph Angotti; and Francis LaGatta, raised as a sibling.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1 Guthrie Lane, Morgantown, WV 26508.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private family services will be conducted with interment to follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
