KINGWOOD — The Preston County prosecuting attorney has charged Terra Alta Mayor Robert DeLauder with a misdemeanor for allegedly removing a meeting agenda from the door of town hall and throwing it away.
DeLauder was arraigned Thursday and posted $500 bond. He is charged with “alteration, concealment or destruction of public record.” The mayor pleaded not guilty and will have a hearing at a later date.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Prosecuting Attorney Melvin C. Snyder III, DeLauder “ripped the town council agenda off of the Terra Alta Town Hall front door for a council meeting and threw it away so the meeting could not occur, and the town council agenda is a public record relating to the mayor and council.”
This is the second charge to spring from conflict in Terra Alta’s town government.
In May, town worker Wesley Nazelrod was charged with assault and providing false information to a state trooper after he allegedly grabbed and pushed Councilman John Trembly after they argued about maintenance on a street sweeper.
Trembly recorded the argument on his cell phone and contacted troopers. Nazelrod is free on bond and has a September hearing set.
