MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia 2021 football recruiting class is picking up steam and rolling downhill. The Mountaineers added their 11th commitment to the group this week when Brunswick (Ohio) offensive lineman Tomas Rimac picked WVU over plenty of others.
Among those were Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, Iowa State, Louisville, Indiana, Purdue and many more.
Even with no camp season ongoing, commitments are coming in as if it were with Rimac becoming the second since Saturday for the Mountaineers.
The 6-foot-6, 275-pounder isn’t a new name on the WVU board, but might have come as a surprise, given the fact he has kept a relatively low profile when it comes to his recruitment. The Ohio native attended the annual big-man camp last June and put on a show, catching the eyes of the coaches.
Things only continued to build from there as Rimac emerged as a prospect who offensive line coach Matt Moore wanted to add to the recruiting class.
The Rivals.com 3-star prospect has the frame to fill out a role as an offensive tackle, but could slide over and fill in at different spots if need be. Still developing, Rimac possesses good feet and has plus athleticism while still filling out his growing frame.
Given the offers from other Power 5 programs, there is a lot of potential in him as a player and it’s something that attracted each of the schools to him.
Adding Rimac to the class gives the Mountaineers a complement to what they already had in Huntington Spring Valley offensive tackle Wyatt Milum, and continues to remake the image of the offensive line room with athletic bodies.
For WVU, Rimac is the fifth commitment from Ohio in this cycle as the program looks to plant its flag in the talent-rich border state.
Even with Rimac and Milum in the fold, expect the Mountaineers to add several more offensive linemen before the dust settles on the 2021 class.
