Mon County’s 5 House 51st incumbents head into general election; sixth Dem edged out

MORGANTOWN — Monongalia County’s five Democrat incumbents representing the House of Delegates 51st District will all go into the general election in November. A sixth Democrat challenger, Jeffrey Budkey, of Morgantown, placed sixth for the five-seat races.

All five GOP candidates also passed through to the November general election.

Here are the vote totals for the six Democrats as of 10 p.m. Tuesday, with all 41 precincts reporting but some absentee ballots still uncounted: Danielle Walker, 9,349 votes (20.6%); Barbara Evans Fleischauer, 9,313 votes (20.52%); Evan Hansen, 8,994 votes (19.81%); John Williams, 7,826 votes(17.24%); Rodney Pyles, 6,687 votes (14.73%); Budkey, 3,223 votes (7.1%).

All five incumbents are from Morgantown, as are four of the Republicans.

The results for the five Republicans are: former Delegate Joe Statler, of Core, 5,054 votes (24.77%); former Delegate Cindy Frich, 4,874 votes (23.88%); Justin White, 3,728 votes (18.27%); Todd Stainbrook, 3.606 votes (17.67%); Zach Lemaire, 3,145 votes (15.41%); .

Totals are unofficial pending canvassing.

Statler and Frich were both bumped in 2018 by Hansen and Walker. The 2018 general had 12 candidates for the 51st. Fleischauer, Hansen, Williams, Walker and Pyles took the top five spots, in that order, followed by Statler and Frich. Two third-party candidates took the 11th and 12th spots.
