Luther Benjimen Long, 74, of Tunnelton, died on Monday, June 8, 2020, at his home with his loving wife by his side. Luther was married to Victoria Sue (Knotts) Long for 54 years.
He was born Jan. 26, 1946, in Dry Fork, to Lenza and Florina Long. He retired from Preston County Schools, where he worked in the maintenance department as a carpenter and locksmith for 28 years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Luther was an active member of the Red Oak Gospel Temple. He enjoyed going camping, riding his ATV, working in his garage and working on his farm.
He is survived by his wife and four children, Joseph B. Long and wife Angela, Janice L. Maxwell and husband Gregory, Victoria A. Johnson and husband William, and Charles L. Long and wife Dawn, all of Tunnelton; 17 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Troy Long, of Dry Fork; Lowell Long, of Dundalk, Md., and Marvin Long, of Tunnelton; and two sisters, Virginia “Sis” Wiley, of Grantsville, Md., and Anna Allman, of Elkview.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother, Chester, and a granddaughter, Sophia Long.
Family will receive friends at Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood from 4:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 with proper distancing and a face mask required. A private graveside service will be held Thursday June 11.
