An abandoned home on Beechurst Avenue is a total loss, after catching fire late Tuesday night.
The Morgantown Fire Department responded to 416 Beechurst Ave., between the BP and the old Marris Keg Store, at 11:50 p.m., Chief Mark Caravasos said.
When firefighters arrived, the rear of the building was on fire and it quickly spread to the second and third floors. Firefighters entered the house to search for people and found no one, he said.
Firefighters used multiple hose lines to fight the fire inside the building and brought it under control, Caravasos said.
A second alarm was initiated, meaning off-duty personnel were called into their stations while on-duty firefighters fought the fire.
Firefighters left the scene at about 2:30 a.m., Caravasos said.
A notice condemning the building was posted by Morgantown Code Enforcement on Wednesday. The notice declares the building an unsafe structure, unfit for occupancy and a dangerous structure.
The building is owned by Grandeotto Inc., of Clarksburg.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Morgantown Fire Marshals are investigating.
