Ann Wiley

Ann Whittlesey Wiley, 90, departed this life quietly in her bed on June 1, 2020. She is the wife of the late Dr. James Hugh Wiley and a daughter of the late Dr. Frederick R. and Helen S. Whittlesey.

She was born in Tulsa, Okla., on Jan. 13, 1930, and had an older sister, Claire W. Weigel, who preceded her in death in July of 2011.

She was a 1948 graduate of Westtown Friends School in Westtown, Pa., and of West Virginia University in 1952. She was an active member and supporter of Chi Omega sorority, serving as house corporation chairwoman.

She married the love of her life, Hugh Wiley, in 1953 and celebrated over 60 years of marriage together, living out lives filled with cats and dogs in their home on the Hogback in Morgantown. Hugh passed from this life in June of 2017.

They are survived by their son, John Frederick Wiley and his wife Joanna, of Morgantown, as well as their daughter Emily Ann Wiley, now wife of John Randall, who blessed Ann with four great-grandchildren, Wilhelmina, John, Robert and James, who were all frequent visitors of hers and who loved their “Nana” like flowers love sunshine.

Ann Wiley led a “Lucy Life,” all ups and no downs. She had a wonderful circle of friends, as well as great good friends in a Bible study circle founded by Carol Sue Bowers. She was a loyal and contributing member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she and Hugh were married in 1953. She enjoyed Valley Hills Garden Club and managed all of the rental units that she and Hugh Wiley began purchasing in, or about, 1970.

She is also survived by her other son, James Thomas Wiley and his wife Cheri, who reside in Hilton Head, N.C., as well as their children, Ben and Katelyn.

Ann Wiley asks to be remembered to the many, many cherished and heartbroken friends of all ages and all walks of life that she leaves behind.

Friends will be invited to a Celebration of Life Memorial at a later date, when gatherings are permitted without social distancing. In the meantime, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ann Wiley to Morgantown Hospice, in care of Mon Health Foundation, 1200 JD Anderson Drive, Morgantown, WV 26505, in thanks for their ceaseless care and kindness to Ann in her final years.

Smith Funeral & Cremation Care of Westover/Morgantown is privileged to care for the Wiley family.
