COVID-19 restrictions mean summer camps will be on hiatus this summer, but BOPARC is planning to continue some programming.
“This was a difficult decision and we explored multiple avenues that might allow us to move forward within the draft guidelines recently provided by the West Virginia DHHR,” according to a letter to families on BOPARC’s website. “However, due to the nature of our services and the manner in which they are delivered, each scenario we explored led us to conclude that the decision was necessary, as the safety and well-being of our participants and staff are of utmost importance. Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for the processing of registration and payment plan refunds. You should not call to receive this refund.”
Based on Gov. Jim Justice’s press conference on May 22 and the guidelines released since then, BOPARC plans to open Krepps and Marilla pools for the season. Given the short timeframe from the announcement to the earliest permissible opening date, officials will work to fill, regulate chemicals and meet with inspection representatives. Firm dates for openings to be announced.
The governor recently indicated that if statistical numbers continue to improve, low-contact sports may be able to resume June 8. BOPARC is waiting to see if that means the baseball and softball fields can open.
Due to a significant reduction in hotel/motel tax funding, BOPARC Summer Concert & Movie Series will not take place in 2020.
Regarding facilities such as pavilions, Dorsey’s Knob Lodge, Marilla Center and the Wiles Hill Community Building, reservations are now being taken. If you were added to a wait-list, you will be called in the order received. Facility reservations can be made by calling the BOPARC Administrative Office at 304-296-8356.
The rail-trail system is open. Please maintain social distancing guidelines.
Parks are open. Playgrounds and public restrooms remain closed. Adhere to social distancing guidelines when using the parks. This includes courts, Marilla skate park and dog parks.
