There is a lot of talk these days about the “new normal.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly changed a good many things about our lives.
Once the purview of hospital workers and seemingly overly cautious travelers only, face masks and coverings are becoming increasingly more common.
And that’s a good thing. Health experts — including West Virginia’s own COVID-19 Czar Dr. Clay Marsh — tell us that if between 60%-80% of us would wear them regularly when in public, we could bring the spread of the novel coronavirus down to a manageable minimum.
And just as this pandemic has encouraged us to get creative in the many other ways we approach our lives — from attending virtual parties to recreating masterpieces with household items for fun — our face coverings have the potential to bring out the designer in all of us.
Instead of seeing it as yet another inconvenience, we encourage our readers to use their imaginations.
As an incentive, The Dominion Post announces its Most Creative Mask Contest.
Make yours an expression of yourself. Release your inner artist.
Cover it in flowers. Make it part of a crown. Turn yourself into a mythical creature, while keeping yourself and others safe.
To enter, you must submit a photo (or photos) of yourself wearing the mask, which should be functional on top of being original.
Deadline for submissions is June 24.
The Dominion Post will narrow down the submissions to a group of finalists, from which our readers will choose a winner.
The winner of the contest will receive a $50 gift card from a local business or donation in the same amount to a charity of his or her choice.
The contest is open to all ages and abilities.
To submit photos, or if you have questions, email newsroom@dominionpost.com or message us on Facebook.
