Margaret Eloise Thomas “Tommy” Olexa, 90, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020, in Orlando, Fla.
She was born June 18, 1929, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Carson Emmett Thomas and the late Zelma (Perkins) Thomas.
Mrs. Olexa is survived by her daughter, Johnella Kilo, of Orlando, Fla., and a sister-in-law, Sandra Thomas, of Hurlock, Md.; as well as her nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Olexa; a son, John Brian Olexa; and her brother, the Rev. Robert Lee Thomas.
Mrs. Olexa received her bachelor’s degree in nursing, and was employed as a registered nurse with Mon Health Medical System where she also taught nursing, as well as WVU Medicine, J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital and Mapleshire Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Sabraton. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, TV shopping channels and watching the Hallmark Channel. Margaret was a very generous person, but a very strong individual who spoke her mind. She was a six-time cancer survivor, a dedicated wife and fantastic mother who will be dearly missed.
Friends may join the family to honor Margaret’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, and again at 10 a.m. Friday, May 29 until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fa. Jerome G. Botsko officiating. She will be laid to rest with her husband and son at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
The Parastas service will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening in the funeral home to conclude the visitation.
