Terra Alta town employee accused of assaulting town recorder

KINGWOOD — A Terra Alta town employee was accused of grabbing the town’s recorder and lying in a police investigation.

Wesley David Nazelrod, 62, of Terra Alta, is free on $2,500 bond. He was charged by Senior Trooper L.S. Hall with assault and providing false information to a trooper. Both are misdemeanors.

According to the criminal complaint, on May 6, Nazelrod “grabbed John Charles Trembly Sr. … a city councilman after an argument over the maintenance of a street sweeper.”

Nazelrod pushed Trembly, raised his fist to him and said, “I’ll assault you,” according to the complaint. The incident occurred at the Terra Alta sewer building and was recorded by Trembly.

On May 16, Hall wrote in the complaint, Nazelrod denied touching Trembly and said Trembly told him he would seek an arrest warrant if Nazelrod touched him. The video recording doesn’t back up that allegation, the trooper said.

The penalty for assault is up to six months in jail or a fine of up to $100 or both. For providing false information to a state police officer, fines are $25 to $200 or 60 days in jail or both.
