KINGWOOD — A Moatsville man admitted to driving drunk and hitting a farm tractor, which caused head and leg injuries to the tractor driver.
Under a plea agreement Stephen Roy Sigley, 30, could receive two to 10 years in prison and be fined $1,000. Sigley pleaded guilty to felony DUI causing serious bodily injury in Preston Circuit Court Thursday.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Savannah Wilkins said the victim of the accident suffered head and leg injuries when his farm tractor overturned and rolled after being struck in the rear by Sigley’s Chevrolet Silverado truck.
The accident occurred on W.Va. 92 south of Newburg.
“He (victim) was life-flighted to Ruby Memorial Hospital,” she said. “Sigley’s blood alcohol content was .198 when he was tested.”
The legal limit to drive is .08.
Wilkins asked the court to give Sigley home confinement.
“I am asking for home confinement because the victim requested it,” Wilkins told the court. “He wanted him (Sigley) to be able to work and pay restitution.”
She said the restitution was granted under a separate civil suit.
Preston Circuit Judge Steven Shaffer ordered a pre-sentencing investigation, and ordered Sigley to take a drug test.
Sentencing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Aug. 12.
