One dead, another injured in crash on I-68

One person is dead after a four vehicle crash on Interstate 68 on Friday morning.

The crash happened in the eastbound lane at the 6.5 mile marker, according to West Virginia State Police Trooper M. Wilson.

It was reported to 911 at 9:05 a.m., according to a 911 supervisor.

A vehicle entered I-68 eastbound off ramp and began traveling west in the eastbound lane, Wilson said. That vehicle then sideswiped a SUV, kept going west and struck another vehicle head on.

One driver was ejected from their vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Another driver was taken to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment, Wilson said.

State Police have not released the names of the deceased or injured at this time.

A fourth vehicle was involved in the crash but its driver was uninjured and the vehicle sustained “minimal damage,” according to Wilson.

Both eastbound lanes were closed for several hours and one westbound lane was closed for about an hour, according to West Virginia 511.

At about 11 a.m., traffic in the eastbound lane was backed up beyond the Sabraton exit.

Multiple tow truck companies were called in to clean up from the accident.

The accident was cleaned up and all first responders left the scene at 11:32 a.m., according to 911.

West Virginia State Police, Mon EMS, Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department responded.
