TERRA ALTA — The contract has been let to repair the Kinsinger Run Bridge on Salt Lick this summer, the governor’s office announced recently.
The contract was awarded to Jim Construction Inc., of Charleston, and totals $269,209.69.
“This project involves the repair of spalled areas (moisture) of concrete for the abutments and installation of scour protection (erosion) around the abutments,” State Division of Highways Spokesman Brent Walker said. “Also the milling and paving of the bridge approaches.”
The bridge is located at the intersection of Salt Lick Road and 53/2 (Kinsinger Road) and crosses Kinsinger Run.
“We anticipate starting sometime during May,” Walker said. “The completion date is by the end of July 2020.”
The project is being funded by FEMA. It is one of more than three dozen road construction and paving projects across the state, worth more than $125 million combined, announced by Gov. Jim Justice and the State Department of Transportation. This was the only Preston County project on the list.
Salt Lick Road runs from Terra Alta to Rowlesburg. Preston County Commissioner Dave Price, who lives in Terra Alta, has logged many complaints from people about the condition of Salt Lick Road and its bridges. Some areas have been flooded more than once, he said.
“Salt Lick’s got a lot of problems, and this is one of them,” Price said. “And I’m thankful for this work.”
However, he noted, he still has a list of roads that need repair, including the Aurora Pike, W.Va. 7 from Terra Alta to the Maryland line and Ringer Avenue, which is being heavily used as a detour around a closed bridge in Terra Alta.
