KINGWOOD — Food for Preston has received a $2,500 grant from the Your Community Foundation.
FFP Coordinator Tammy Laney said the money is from the YCF COVID-19 Response Grant. Food for Preston was one of 19 nonprofits that received funds.
Laney said the funds will be used to purchase food for the Backpack Program, which serves about 340 students each week.
“We are grateful for the generosity of our community in supporting the nonprofits on the front lines of this pandemic,” YCF President Patty Showers Ryan said. “These organizations are working hard to address the needs of the most vulnerable among us, while facing unprecedented financial strains. We are pleased to coordinate this effort to provide them with emergency funding to support the clients they serve.”
Laney agreed.
“It is so important to keep our program up and running to serve students in need while schools are closed,” she said.
She said FFP continues to look for sources of funding and food for the Preston food pantries and the backpack program to feed the growing number of families in need as the COVID-19 crisis stretches on.
