Monongalia County Sheriff Perry Palmer would not say if there is a suspect in the shooting death of a woman at Babbling Brook Estates on Wednesday morning.
He also would not identify the victim or answer other questions about the incident.
Deputies were dispatched to the home on Babbling Brook Estates — a dead end street off Tyrone Road, near the intersection with old Cheat Road — at 12:45 a.m., Palmer said.
The female victim was taken to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, where she died from her injuries, Palmer said.
A Mon County detective traveled to Charleston on Wednesday for the autopsy, Palmer said.
Mary Rogers lives several houses from where she said the shooting took place. She said she did not hear gunshots, but she did hear the sirens of first responders.
Rogers told The Dominion Post an elderly couple lives in the house where the shooting occurred and a police officer told her the victim wasn’t an elderly woman, but it “wasn’t good.”
The incident is still under investigation. No names or additional information is being released at this time, Palmer said. He would only say the shooting is under investigation.
Questions such as where the woman was shot and by what kind of weapon went unanswered. He also would not say if he had a suspect or if deputies were still searching for one.
As of Wednesday afternoon, no home on Babbling Brook Estates had police tape outside or any obvious signs indicating it was the location of the shooting.
The Morgantown Police Department also responded to the call because they had a unit close, on Mileground Road, and the call came in as a shooting, Palmer said.
