MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Four members of the West Virginia tennis team have been named to the 2020 Academic All-Big 12 Women’s Tennis Team, as announced by the league Tuesday.
Juniors Giovanna Caputo (sports and exercise psychology) and Anne-Sophie Courteau (biology), as well as sophomores Anastasiia Bovolskaia (international studies) and Nicole Roc (finance) all represented the Mountaineers on the first team.
Of the 45 student-athletes to make the Academic All-Big 12 first team, Caputo and Roc were two of just 11 selections to achieve a perfect, 4.0 grade point average (GPA).
This year marks the second consecutive first-team selection for Caputo and Courteau. Last year, Bovolskaia and Roc were selected to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team.
It also is the seventh straight season that at least three WVU student-athletes have been named to the first team.
“We are proud of Nastya, Gigi, Sophie, and Nicole in their academic work,” WVU coach Miha Lisac said. “This is well deserved and represents all the work they put in and the dedication of the student athletes and our academic staff!”
Student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and have participated in 20% of their team’s scheduled events to qualify. Student-athletes can also qualify if they have maintained a 3.0 GPA in the previous two semesters and fulfill the participation requirement.
