A “For Sale” sign was recently spotted on the lawn in front of the Star City Post Office, but sources say the sign does not foreshadow the closing of the post office.
“I noticed the sign also,” said Star City Mayor Herman Reid, who added that he “[had] no idea” what the sign meant for the future of the post office.
Reid said the post office rents the property from individuals affiliated with Sellaro’s Overhead Door Service, a garage door service that is also in Star City.
Jim Sellaro, a representative of Sellaro’s Overhead Door Service, said that the Sellaros’ rental company owns the Star City Post Office property. “No, the post office is not closing,” Sellaro said. “We have a lease with [the Postal Service], with several more years on the lease.”
Sellaro went on to explain the purpose of the sign on the property: “We have been approached by someone interested in buying the property, and we put the ‘For Sale’ sign to see if there were any other interested parties.”
A representative from the Star City Post Office said the sign was “no big deal.” He then provided his opinion on what the sign could mean for the post office: “I think this is just a time when people are buying real estate. [It has] nothing really to do with the post office.”
