KINGWOOD — The Kingwood Water Board voted to approve Public Service District 1’s (PSD 1) water tap application for the Pleasant Valley area off Dogtown Road.
Board members requested a copy of the PSD’s grant and a copy of the final engineering review for the project. They are also requesting approval of the project State Public Service Commission.
Earlier, The Dominion Post reported Kingwood Water Board Chairman Robert Deriggi said Kingwood would sell water to the PSD but the price and other details had to be worked out. PSD 1 wants the taps so it has options for water sources.
PSD 1 Water Operator Danny Layton told the board his district is putting in permanent two-way taps. Layton said the line will be two inches.
“Any time there is going to be a reversal of the flow it will stir up the system,” Layton said. “That’s why these are called emergency systems. We will notify you and the customers.”
Layton said PSD 1 will pay for the line, pumps and other equipment required for the project.
“We want to make sure we have access to our meters on the end of the lines for testing and reading,” Deriggi said.
In other business, Tim Rice of Potesta Engineering, engineer for the Howesville and Herring Road projects, told board members he received paperwork from environmental specialists in Charleston about tree clearing on Herring Road. Rice said a small bat box might have to be provided when the project is completed.
“It will depend on whether it’s one tree or two. I’m happy with this,” he said. “I’ve worked on projects where we had to put out 20 bat boxes.”
The Indiana bat and the Virginia big-ear bat are federal endangered species found in West Virginia, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
Rice said he did not have an update on the Howesville project. He said he is waiting for approval to bid the project.
