Louis Ludwig DuPont, 99, of Bretz, entered eternal rest on Sunday April 19, 2020. He was born in Cascade, July 8, 1920, a son of the late Dominic and Julia (Nena) DuPont.
Louis played professional baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates farm club. He served in the US Army Air Corps with the 20th Air Force in the Pacific during World War II. He was traded to the St Louis Cardinals and invited to their Spring Camp, but instead went to work locally. He worked as a surveyor for Chapel Coal and several other local coal mines and as a mechanic at Sterling faucet until his retirement.
He was a lifetime member of Saint Zita Catholic Church in Masontown, W.Va. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend. Survivors include one son, David DuPont and his fiance Connie Musick, of Arthurdale; one daughter, Theresa and Charlie Blosser, of Bretz; sister-in-law, Boots Tiberio, also of Bretz; four grandchildren, Scott (Kara) Blosser and Lori Mugnano, Derek (Jenny) and Drew (Kerry) DuPont; four great-grandchildren, Kate and Lauren Blosser, Christopher and Carly DuPont. He was preceded by his loving wife of 55 years, Helen Mary (Tiberio) DuPont. He was the last of his immediate family: four brothers, John, Gene, Joe and Emilio; and two sisters, Mary Dalzot and Kate Canish.
Graveside services with military honors will be at Masontown Cemetery at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 23, with Father Andrew Switzer as Celebrant.
