A science experiment started a fire Wednesday in a house on Camp Run Road. Damage was mostly contained to a single room.
The fire was first reported at 12:29 p.m., according to MECCA 911. Camp Run Road is off of Old Stewartstown Road and goes north into Pennsylvania. This house was just before the state line.
No one was injured, according to a resident of the home. She did not wish to speak further with The Dominion Post.
Point Marion (Pa.) Volunteer Fire Department was first on scene and was able to put water on the fire until backup arrived, Chief Gary Ganoe said.
He said the department had just returned from a call and hadn’t been back in the station for more than five minutes when this fire was reported.
Capt. Jim Bowers, of Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department, said a kid was conducting a science experiment and that started the fire. The room where the fire started contained most of the damage but there was additional water and smoke damage on that side of the house, he said.
Firefighters began to clean up shortly after 2 p.m.
Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department, Star City Volunteer Fire Department, Mon EMS and the Monongalia County tanker truck, driven by Granville volunteer firefighters, also responded to the fire.
