MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A former West Virginia basketball player was arrested and charged with selling drugs.
Aaric M. Murray, 30, of Morgantown, is charged with possession with intent by the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were called to Independence Hills Village for a possible hostage situation involving a woman over a rental car at 5:40 a.m. last Thursday, according to a criminal complaint.
When deputies arrived, they spoke to Murray and another man who lives at the home, Richard Johnson. Murray invited deputies in and sat down in the living room. Both he and Johnson knew nothing about a female being held hostage and allowed deputies to look around their house, the complaint said.
Deputies saw a bag of crack, a bag of marijuana, cutting agents and drug packaging materials in plain view where Murray was sitting, the complaint said.
Murray also had $6,415 wrapped in bands in his pocket. He told deputies he won the money gambling at Hot Spots, but he didn’t have a voucher to prove it and the local Hot Spots are closed because of the pandemic, the complaint said.
Johnson had $2,768 on him and a “small amount of controlled substances,” the complaint said. He was arrested for simple possession and released on a personal recognizance bond.
A search of the home found 35 grams of methamphetamine, five grams of crack, three grams of marijuana and an eighth of a gram of heroin, the complaint said.
Packaging materials, cutting agents, a digital scale, four hand guns, ledgers, several cell phones and an additional $100 were also found in the home.
