Edna Day

Edna Virginia Day passed away on April 14, 2020, at Pine Ridge in Kingwood, Preston County. She was a lifelong resident of Arthurdale and daughter of original homesteaders, Herman and Bertha Burns Reber. Born on Aug. 30, 1930, Edna was the youngest of four children. She contracted rheumatic fever at age
9 that left her with a heart condition she managed throughout her life.

Edna married Robert L. Day on July 24, 1948. He was the light of her life and they enjoyed nearly 68 years of married life until his death on Jan. 2, 2016. Edna and Robert have two children, Terry (Gabriele) Day, of Mt. Holly, N.J. and Susan (Phil) Day-Perroots of Cheat Lake. They have four grandsons, Eric (Monica) Day, of Florence, Ky., Christopher (Marissa) Day, of Hillsborough, N.J., Justin (Sara) Perroots, of Charles Town, and Jeff (Shauna) Perroots, of Charleston, S.C. They were blessed with 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Edna loved to make crafts — from sewing and painting on clothes to making jewelry. She was known for her creative talents, often making contributions to the Arthurdale Heritage Craft Shop. Reading novels and religious material was a large part of her life until she lost her vision in 2007. She was active in the Arthurdale Presbyterian Church serving in the choir, Presbyterian Women and as Deacon over the years. Arthurdale was a special place to Edna and she often told of giving flowers to Eleanor Roosevelt during one of her visits to the New Deal community.

As the last of the Reber siblings, Edna is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Bertha Reber, sisters, Pearl (Guy) Smith, Mary Louise Chaff and brother, Herman Reber Jr. In addition to her husband, Robert, his siblings, Allen Day, Gerald (Giggs) Day, Dorothy Wolfe and Dave Day, are also deceased.
Also surviving are sister and brother-in-law Janet (John) Cherry and Roger (Linda) Day.

The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Pine Ridge in Preston County for their wonderful care of “Miss Edna.” During this pandemic, Morgan Funeral Home is handling private graveside services as Edna is laid to rest next to Robert in Arthurdale Cemetery. A memorial will be held at a later date. Donations and memorials may be made to Arthurdale Heritage, Inc., P.O. Box 850, Arthurdale, WV 26520 or online at Arthurdale
