Construction continues on what will be the third Aldi store in the area.
When the Morgantown Planning Commission approved two requests — involving combining two parcels at the Earl L. Core Road location and the store’s site plan — from the national grocery chain in May 2019, Christopher Kambar of APD Engineering & Architecture said the planned building would be 20,288 square feet. About 12,000 of that footage will be retail space designed around a five-aisle floor plan.
According to the plan, the four-way light at the intersection of Earl L. Core Road and Hartman Run Road will control access into a 103-space parking lot. In May, Kambar said West Virginia Division of Highways is designing the signal. He also reported that the store property will include cross access to Sabraton Plaza as well as a path from the rail-trail.
Aldi did not comment on when the construction will be completed and when the store will open in time for this report.
Aldi has two stores in the Morgantown area — one at 245 Don Knotts Boulevard and one at 3521 Monongahela Boulevard in Star City.
