KINGWOOD — The Preston County Health Department said Thursday that the single death due to COVID-19 reported in its Wednesday totals is not new, but an update on the way cases are reported.
This person is among four in the state who died previously, Preston Health Department Director V.J. Davis said. The person had a permanent address in Preston County but was living outside the county.
Preston had six positive cases as of Wednesday evening, according to the report. In addition to the death, one person recovered and four are isolated and being treated at home.
County numbers may differ from those reported by the DHHR because of when the state website is updated, Davis said. There may be a 24- to 48-hour lag.
The department asks people to focus on what they can do to protect themselves and their families, rather than the numbers.
-Stay home, go out only if necessary.
-Practice six-foot social distancing.
-Wash hands often.
-Do not touch your face. This provides germs that may be on your hands a mode of transmission into your body.
