Violet Louise Herod, 97, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully into the arms of her savior, on April 5, 2020. Louise was born in War, W.Va., on July 21, 1922, to the late Melvin and Elsie Wagoner, and resided most recently at Friendship Manor, where she made many wonderful friends. She was also a member of Suncrest United Methodist Church.
Louise graduated from UHS in 1941. During her senior year, she worked for the Better Business Bureau and, during WWII, was employed by the C&P Telephone Company.
She began her career at WVU in February 1966 as a part-time secretary and went on to become an Executive Secretary. After 15 years with WVU and 10 years at WVNET, she retired in July of 1993. Louise took great pride in her role as Executive Secretary, and was honored to be named as a Secretary of the Year in 1976.
Louise was a light in her family’s life. No matter how big or small the problem, she always said, “You have to give it to God and trust in him.” Her favorite pastime was getting coffee and riding around with her daughter, June, who was her constant companion and loving caregiver. She loved her family and really enjoyed the annual family beach trip.
Mrs. Herod was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Herod, in 2001 and a daughter, Carolyn Angotti, in 2004. She is survived by two daughters, June (John) Statler, of Morgantown, and Julianne Forrelli, of Boston; grandchildren, Mary (Nathan) Montgomery, of Morgantown, Maggie Robinson, of Morgantown, Tamara Camaj, Dr. Taryn Forrelli, Brooke Forrelli and Kristen Forrellli Bayjir; along with 13 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice and Home Health Services, whose nurses and aides always made her day. Your love and compassion toward her and all of us is deeply appreciated.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home and she will be inurned at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.
