Richard Davies

Richard E. “Rich” Davies, 86, of Redwood Street, Grafton, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2020, at the Rosewood Healthcare Center in Grafton.
He was born Sept. 23, 1933, in Cassville, a son of the late William Arthur and Arettia (Hart) Davies.

He is survived by three children, Richard E. Davies II, of Thornton, Terry L. Jones (Mike), of Orange Park, Fla., and Allison M. Simmons, of Flemington; seven grandchildren, Chelsey L. Jones, of Orange Park, Fla., William R. Davies, of Flemington, Jennifer R. Weaver (Anthony), of Grafton, Lydea Holman (Stephen), of Vinton, Va., Mackenzie R. Simmons, of Flemington, Kassidy L. Simmons, of Flemington, and Merrick D. Simmons, also of Flemington; five great-grandchildren, Aiden C. Ketterman, Destiny M. Davies, Jasmine N. Lynn, Samuel D. Weaver, and Natalie B. Weaver; two brothers, Donald Davies (Wanda), of Kettering, Ohio, and Gary Davies (Helen), of Morgantown; one sister, Judith Smith (Gerald), of Youngstown, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Lula Alice (Miller) Davies who passed away Feb. 19, 2018, and one sister, Deloris McGettigan and her husband, Earl.

Rich graduated from University High School then served in the US Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict.

He was the manager of Thorofare Stores for 31 years and then was co/owner with his wife, Alice, of Davies IGA Store for 11 years.

He was a member of the Grafton Lions Club and the Haymond Community Center.

He enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing and watching basketball.

The family will have a private visitation and interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton will be handling the arrangements for the Davies family.
