Douglas Coombs

On Wednesday, March 18, 2020, Douglas J. Coombs, 67, flew away to that big airport lounge in the sky. He passed away peacefully at his home in Strawberry Plains, Tenn.

Doug was a man of many talents that included being a charter pilot, owning his own skydiving business and running his own bar and grill (Bogey’s Sports Bar) in Chattanooga, Tenn.

He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Marti Brown, of Red Bank, Tenn.; his mother, LaRue S. Wilson; father, James E. Coombs; and brother James “Jamie” S. Coombs.

He is survived by his sister, Kathryn “Kytt” Coombs Howard, of Morgantown; nephew, Maxwell Howard, of Mary Esther, Fla.; sister-in-law, Gilda R. Coombs and nephew James S. Coombs II, both of Fairmont; brothers, Scott (Jen) Coombs, of Granada Hills, Calif., and Sean Coombs, of Morgantown; sisters, Nora Sheets, of Morgantown, and Beth Sheets, of Centreville, Va.; and special friends Julian and Jayden Causey, of Red Bank, Tenn., and Kimberly “Mimi” Davis, of Baltimore, Md.

There will be no public service; however, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
