One more employee of Sundale Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care has a confirmed case of COVID-19, bringing the number of confirmed cases of the virus in Monongalia County to 32, the state Department of Health and Human Resources said Wednesday.
Since the outbreak began in mid-March, nine of Sundale’s 150 employees have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Twenty-one residents have or had confirmed cases of the virus. Three people remain in J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, while one Sundale resident was released from Mon Health Medical Center and returned to Sundale.
There are no new cases of COVID-19 among the facility’s 98 patients. Dr. Carl Shrader, Sundale’s medical director who is also a WVU Medicine physician, said none of 18 infected patients — who are in isolation at Sundale — have had increased temperatures in the last 48 hours.
“All have been normal,” Shrader said.
To safe guard the public and reduce the risk of the virus spreading, in-person visitation has been banned and replaced with video conferencing for families.
Common areas and rooms have been sanitized and meals are being served on disposable
dinnerware.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the state DHHR said there are 191 cases of confirmed coronavirus in West Virginia. Kanawha County overtook Monongalia County with the most verified cases with 37. Preston has 3 cases; Marion, 8 with one confirmed COVID death, and Harrison has 14.
There have been 4,384 negative cases, the state said.
