Appalachian Hotel set to open in July

KINGWOOD — The Appalachian Hotel in Kingwood is proceeding on schedule for a July opening.
“We still feel very comfortable with July for having the hotel open,” said Beth Peddicord, who along with her husband, Robby, owns the hotel.

“We’re absolutely taking reservations. July, August and September are filling up amazingly,” she said.

Reservations can be made online at www.appalachianhospitality.com. The new hotel and restaurant are located across W.Va. 7 from the Kingwood Walmart.

While the coronavirus pandemic has necessitated extra precautions during this final stage of preparations for the hotel, it also helped them plan for possible future ones, Peddicord said.

The 28-room hotel is built in two wings.

“We can have like one hall set up if they need us for people and/or I can isolate one wing off for doctors, nurses, anybody,” she said. “We are going to put in place a plan that we can make it work.”

The Appalachian will be pet-friendly, with dogs under 30 pounds, who travel well and stay quiet at night, allowed.

Peddicord said furniture for the rooms is being made by Amish craftsmen.

The hotel includes a 1,264-square-foot meeting room that will accommodate about 100 people. It will be available for conferences and local events like birthday parties and class reunions.

Attractions in the hotel will include a state-of-the-art, $50,000-plus golf simulator and a virtual reality setup. They can be reserved as part of an event.

Applications are being taken for employees at the hotel.

The opening date may be later for the adjacent restaurant, The Hitching Post Steakhouse and Saloon, which is owned by their son, Hunter Peddicord. The COVID-19 has made it difficult to work with suppliers there.
