Edward Bernatowicz

Edward Fabian Bernatowicz, 87, of Kingwood, died Friday, March 20, 2020, at Pine Ridge Nursing Home.

He was born April 7, 1932, in Snyder, W.Va., and was a son of the late Louie Frank and Stella (Gerasimovich) Bernatowicz.

Edward was a 1949 graduate of Kingwood High School. Edward was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served during the Korean War. He was also a member of the National Guard for 28 years. He attained the rank of Sergeant 1st Class with the 201st Field Artillery Battalion. He was employed as the assistant manger of A&P Grocery Store in Kingwood for 25 years. In 1975, he fulfilled his dream and became the owner and operator of the Western Auto Store until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Kingwood, the Knights of Columbus, and the Kingwood Lions Club where he served as secretary for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Pauline Ann (Krupinski) Bernatowicz, whom he married on Feb. 14, 1953; one son and spouse, Eric and Becky Bernatowicz, of Kingwood; five daughters and spouses, Vicki and Jim Cole, of Tunnelton, Dianne Livengood, of Kingwood, Julie and Roger Britton, of Kingwood, Carolyn Pratt, of Kingwood, and Stephanie Bernatowicz, of Kingwood; four brothers and spouses, Francis and Elaine Bernatowicz, of Warren, Ohio, John and Kay Bernatowicz, of Tunnelton, Ludwik and Joyce Bernatowicz, of Kingwood, and Patrick Bernatowicz and Loretta, of Kingwood; three sisters, Rose Ann Lenhart, of Kingwood, Antoinette “Toni” Bernatowicz, of Tunnelton, and Teresa Spear, of Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marion Metea; one brother, Joseph Bernatowicz; and three brothers-in-law, Jim Lenhart, Fred Spear and Cornell Metea.

Due to the current restrictions set forth by the CDC, please use your own discretion if attending the visitation where friends will be received at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel; 295 South Price St. from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 24. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date, which will be open to the public. A private graveside service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, with Father Andy Switzer officiating.

The family requests that any memorial donations be made in Edward’s memory to the St. Sebastian Altar Society, 322 East Main St., Kingwood, WV 26537.
