Windy conditions caused a tree to fall across W. Va. 7 near Ralph’s Beer Distributor.
The Morgantown Fire Department was alerted to the downed tree at 1:44 p.m. Friday, according to Lt. Brian Izzo.
The tree landed on several power and cable lines on both sides of the road, splintering a pole on its side of the road and bringing another down across the street.
Parts of the tree were resting on 720 Powell Ave. There did not appear to be significant damage to the building.
Clearing the tree was the responsibility of the utility companies, according to Division of Transportation Highway Administrator for Monongalia County David McCormick. The DOT was on scene to provide assistance with controlling traffic and traffic control signs.
According to Mon Power’s website, 21-100 customers were affected by the incident. The original time of restoration was 5 p.m. but was changed to 7 p.m.
McCormick estimated the road would be closed at least two and likely three hours.
As of 6 p.m., the road was still closed.
