Virginia Ruth (Brown) Work, 99, of Haymond Road, Grafton, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020, at the home of Donna and Lonnie Mayle.
She was born on Oct. 11, 1920, in Independence, a daughter of the late Jay and Clara (Kisner) Brown.
She is survived by one daughter, Judith A. Schill, of Hudson, Ohio, and one son, James J. Work (Nancy), of Grafton; six grandchildren, Michael Schill (Helena), of Tremedal, Spain, Cathy Hartman (Sal), of Hudson, Ohio, Penny Older, of Saco, Maine, James A. Work (Shelly), of Fairmont, Heather Chambers, of Grafton, Justin A. Work (Amanda), of Winner, S.D.; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of
75 years, James Ormand Work, who passed away on June 18, 2013, and two brothers, Gilbert Brown and Charles Brown.
She worked as a secretary for the Preston County B.O.E. at Arthurdale and was a member of the First Christian Church in Grafton.
Virginia enjoyed her family, was a small business owner, the former Mayor of the City of Reedsville and loved traveling, quilting and ceramics.
At the family’s request, there will be no funeral home visitation, and there will be a private graveside service at the Woodsdale Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
