Master Gardener
Maybe you’ve seen their display at the Buckwheat Festival in Memorial North. Maybe you’ve seen their name posted as the organization taking care of a community flower garden. They are Preston County Master Gardeners.
Master Gardeners are people who like to work in a garden, who like flowers, who want to know what is eating their vegetables before they get the opportunity and who want to help others learn about these topics. If any of this applies to you, maybe you should become a Master Gardener.
The WVU Preston County Extension Service is organizing a Certified Master Gardener course. Applications are due by Thursday. The weekly classes are projected to begin March 24. The $100 charge covers the cost of the manual and training.
The classroom training will cover such subjects as botany, plant propagation, entomology, pesticides and pest management, plant disease, soil and fertilizers, turf grass management, vegetable gardening, gardening equipment, tree fruits, small fruit, pruning, landscape design, woody ornamentals, indoor plants, herbaceous plants, and garden animals. Students will also learn how to share what they have learned through various volunteer opportunities.
If you are interested contact the Preston County WVU Extension office at 304-329-1391 or visit the WVU Extension Service web site to find out more.
