Mamie Rittenhouse

Miss Mamie Rittenhouse, 97, of Fairmont, died March 13, 2020, at Fairmont Regional Hospital Medical Center due to complications of a stroke and many other complications.

She was born Nov. 15, 1922, at No. 8 Farmington, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late Gardner and Mattie Davis, of Idamay, W.Va.

She was baptized in the Baptist Church, in Idamay, at the age of 6, and again at 15 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, in Rachel. She later came to Good Hope Baptist Church, in Barrackville, where she was a member until her death. She was an elder in the church and served in many capacities until her departing.

Mamie graduated from Dunbar High School in 1941. She met and married the late Russell Lee Rittenhouse Jr., of Mannington, who passed in 1986. Together they raised three children, Rosaland Rittenhouse Mosley Spicer, Alexander Rittenhouse, who is deceased, Ronald R. Rittenhouse, and Eugene Walker, who is deceased.

Mamie was a beloved wife, proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mamie worked at Mannington Telephone Office, Mannington Drapery Factory and Fairmont Clinic, where she retired. She then worked at Blackshire Elementary and Jayenne Elementary for Marion County Schools. She was an avid bowler well into her late 80s.

She is survived by her children and extended family, Rosaland Rittenhouse Mosley Spicer and her late husband Richard Spicer; Ron Rittenhouse and his wife Mary; grandchildren, Ciann D. Robertson and her husband Tim Robertson and Andrea P. Rittenhouse, Rickey Mosley and his wife Beverly; granddaughters Krystal Head and Kortney Mosley, Kim Mosley Reeves and her husband George Reeves, and Michael Mosley and Yolanda; grandchildren, Torrey Mosley and Michael Mosley Jr.; extended family, Rhonda Rittenhouse, Jenny Wack and her husband Denis, Kenny Rittenhouse and his wife Stacey; granddaughter, Crystal Jackson; nieces, Claudia, Penny and Vanessa Walker; and great-granddaughter, Olivia Riley and Jaylynn Mosley; and a friend, Hannah Robinson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell L. Rittenhouse Jr., her sons, Alexander Rittenhouse, Eugene Walker; her brothers, Henry Davis, Biggie and Lilly Davis, Johnny Davis; her sister, Beatrice Walker; and a granddaughter, Teresa Zell. She was the last surviving member of her family.

She was a 12-year resident of East View Unity Apartments and recently Fairmont Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She would like to thank the management and friends at East View Unity Apartments and the Fairmont Health & Rehabilitation Center, as well as the Fairmont Regional Medical Center Staff and Hospice.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, from 3-7 p.m. Monday, March 16, and noon until 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 17. The funeral service will be at home at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, with Pastor Mike Little officiating. Interment will follow the IOOF Cemetery in Enterprise, W.Va.
