Where does a senior go to find a job?
Many seniors choose to find a full- or part-time job after retiring. Some consider continuing to work a safety net, others work for extra spending money, and some for the social networking a can job offer.
Debbie Clarke, front office supervisor at the Monongalia County Senior Center (Senior Monongalians), said they can provide senior job seekers with referral information.
Senior Mons also lists job openings available at their organization and on its website at www.seniormons.org/index.php/employment.
Anyone interested in a job listed on the Senior Mons’ site can send a resume to the executive director at cliddle@seniormons.org or call 304-296-9812 for more information.
Another good resource is the local newspaper. Part-time, full-time, freelance, temporary, or seasonal work, opportunities can often be found in the Help Wanted section.
Jobs listed might include tutoring, blogging, consulting, babysitting, petsitting, cashier, teaching assistant, housesitting, waiter/waitress or direct sales.
According to AARP, seniors considering working for a direct-sales firm can contact the Direct Selling Association for information about specific direct-sales companies.
A visit to business.ftc.gov, the local Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau or state Attorney General’s Office will let you know if there have been any complaints about the direct sales company you are considering.
WorkForcewv.org provides information and listings for available jobs and training. It also provides information about job fairs, information for veterans, and information about available job and training opportunities.
