State trooper hit by man driving the wrong way on I-79

A West Virginia State Trooper and the man who was driving the wrong way on Interstate 79 are both unharmed following a head-on collision on Wednesday morning.

James Davie, of Washington, Pa., got onto I-79 traveling north in the southbound
lanes from either the Westover or Star City exit, according to Sgt. D. Barger
of the West Virginia State Police.

Davie, driving a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta, then collided with a state police cruiser,
which was traveling south towards Morgantown, Barger said.

According to a 911 supervisor, the crash was reported at 7:16 a.m.

Both the trooper and Davie were taken to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital for
evaluation. Neither was injured as a result of the crash, Barger said.

“Which we’re fortunate for both of them to walk away from a crash like this,” Barger said.

Davey was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device and one way violation.
