KINGWOOD — Preston County Commission heard from Preston Health Department Director V.J. Davis this week, who said there were no confirmed cases of the coronavirus in West Virginia, or any surrounding states.
He said, as of Monday there were 43 confirmed cases of the virus in the United States and nine deaths.
“We are on weekly calls with the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) and are reviewing pandemic plans with OEM/911,” Davis said.
He said some of the precautions that can be taken against the virus include washing your hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes and avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
“Protocols have been set up. If someone has flu-like symptoms or has been in an area where there are confirmed cases of the virus, they should call their health provider or the health department,” Davis said. “We prepare for the worst and hope for the best.”
In other county commission business, Jane Lark, West Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution state vice regent, asked for recognition of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and to declare March as West Virginia Women in History Month.
The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote.
Commission President Samantha Stone signed the Proclamation.
Commissioner Dave Price said, weather-permitting, the dam for the impoundment that supplies water to Public Service District 1 should be completed by the end of March.
He said crews have been working on the project at every opportunity.
