MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia University tennis team opens its Big 12 Conference season today with a match up against Iowa State at the Summit Tennis Academy, in Morgantown.

“This is exciting having the Big 12 opener at home,” WVU coach Miha Lisac said. “It’ll be a good atmosphere and start to the Big 12 season for us.”

First serve against the Cyclones is set for 10 a.m. This marks the first season since 2014 that WVU has opened Big 12 Conference play at home.

West Virginia began its series with Iowa State back in 2009, and the Mountaineers are 1-7 all-time against the Cyclones. The latest matchup between the two teams came last season, with Iowa State taking the win.

Iowa State enters the matchup with a record of 8-3 and coming off a 4-2 win over in-state rival Iowa on Friday in Ames. Of its eight wins, ISU has swept three teams this year: South Dakota, Northern Iowa and Omaha.

The Cyclones doubles are led by No. 45 duo Thasaporn Naklo and Christin Hsieh who have five wins on the season when paired together. ISU also opened its conference season last year against the Mountaineers.
