MORGANTOWN — A Morgantown man is accused of attacking and beating someone outside of a WVU dorm on its downtown campus in January.
Marzell Christopher Collins, 19, is charged with malicious assault.
At 3:22 a.m., Jan. 28, WVU Police officers responded to Dadisman Hall for a victim who said he was attacked outside of the residence hall, according to a criminal complaint.
Collins contacted the victim on social media, asking him to come outside to talk about a woman they both knew, the victim told police.
Once outside, Collins told the victim they were going to fight and starting running after the victim, throwing punches at him. The victim was thrown to the ground where Collins continued to hit the victim all over his body and kicking him in the head and body, the complaint said.
Another unidentified person also hit and kicked the victim on the ground, the complaint said. The attack was capture on video.
The victim showed police social media messages from Collin which said if the victim messaged his ex-girlfriend, that he would get really (explicative) up and they would fight every time Collins saw him, the compliant said. Collins also taunted the victim and gave the victim his address.
Staff at Collins apartment complex confirmed Collins lived there, the complaint said. Photos the victim showed police of Collins on social media matched his ID card photo.
The victim suffered injuries to his head and shoulder, a cut under his right eye and bruises on his upper and bottom lips, the complaint said.
Collins is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
